Ballina Cup 2012 – Final Field, Barriers & Betting

September 14th, 2012

Eight horses remain in the field for the 2012 Ballina Cup, which is due to run at 4.35pm AEST at Ballina Racecourse today September 14, 2012.

Included in the 2012 Ballina Cup final field and barrier draw is Pitt Street, who is coming off the back of a win in the Smithfield RSL Handicap at Hawkesbury on September 1.

The Street Cry gelding has won five of his 23 race starts and has earned more than $140,000 in prize money during his career.

Trainer Kris Lees is confident Pitt Street will be able to win today’s 2012 Ballina Cup, after opting to send the horse to the race over a Rosehill Gardens handicap tomorrow.

Pitt Street has accepted for the $85,000 McGrath Handicap at Rosehill, however, a barrier draw of three lead the trainer to choose the 2012 Ballina Cup instead.

“It is good prize money, it looks a winnable race for him and the barrier was a big factor which swayed me towards sending him up there,” Lees said.

“Pitt Street is a horse that has been getting up in the weights and the 54kgs he has in the Cup made the trip to Ballina very inviting.”

Pitt Street is presently the second favourite to win the 2012 Ballina Cup at bookmaker.com.au and is paying odds of $3.60.

Favourite to win the $55,000 race is currently Poor Judge, who is paying $3.60 and is the 2012 Ballina Cup market mover at bookmaker.com.au.

Poor Judge has won 15 of his 46 race starts and has earned close to $600,000 in prize money.

Skating On Ice is the third favourite to win the 2012 Ballina Cup and is paying odds of $4.20 at bookmaker.com.au.
